A day devoted to long-form improvisation. It’s a good opportunity to give it a try if you’ve never done it before (or even know what it is) because it is aimed at those with less experience in long-form.
Great for those new (and newish) to long-form and actors who want to explore comedy acting.
Little experience is needed for this session. Either you’ve done one or two improv or acting classes before, or you’ve been casually doing improv for a little while (e.g. the Jam).
What is Long-form Improv?
It’s a category of improvised comedy performance where one or more narratives are maintained, explored or advanced through more than one scene. In long-form improv, you’ll almost definitely find yourself playing a character more than once, for example, and working towards keeping a story going for a few scenes.
What’s Covered in the Session?
We’ll be looking at certain soft skills, like listening, and playing around with different long-form formats as a way of getting to grips with the different way which you can tell a story. More specifically:
- Listening skills
- Scene editing
- Finding and following a narrative
By the end you’ll have a good idea of what to pay attention to when doing long-form, the kind of decisions you’ll be making and how to move from one scene to the next.
