An introductory workshop playing around with more movement-based improv. This is an excellent introduction to physical theatre and an important addition to your performing and comedy skillset.
Some basic performing arts experience is recommended for this workshop. That could be a few improv classes, a little bit of acting, or anything else that involves performing in front of others.
What Is Clowning?
Clowning is a form of physical theatre that emphasises playfulness, exploration and following your creative impulses. The form often involves making bold choices, whether scripted or improvised. Improv is a big part of clowning too, as clowns will react honestly to the world around them and embrace failures as they go.
What you’ll be doing in this Clowning Workshop
You’ll be encouraged to let go of self-consciousness and embrace spontaneity! Over the course of 3 hours you’ll be guided through the fundamental principles of clowning through a series of fun exercises designed to help you learn to:
- Listen and build a connection with your audience
- Embrace failure
- Follow your impulses
- Find your pleasure through games and improvisation
Who Should Attend?
No previous clown experience necessary! This workshop is open to anyone who feels comfortable being in front of others, whether you’re a beginner or an experienced performer. You don’t need to be a professional, just bring a willingness to be curious, explore, and play.
