Spend a day learning about creating and exploring characters through ins like emotion and physicality. A great session if you want to discover solid techniques for generating bold characters in improv and comedy acting.
You’ll need basic improv or acting experience if you want to get the most out of this class. You’ll have been improvising/acting casually for a bit (e.g. you’ve regularly attended the Jam at some point) or been on any kind of “Basics” or “Beginner’s” improv/acting course in the past.
What’s Covered in the Class?
We’ll look at ways to come up with characters on the fly, which is particularly useful in improv, as you can imagine. This does include working on character range a little bit too.
Inhabiting characters and practicing techniques for staying in character will be a part of it. This will involve things like physicality, temperament and motivations. Very useful for long-form improv and comedy acting. A lot of this will also cover building characters that have depth and nuance, and exploring their relationships with others.
By the end of the session you’ll have a number of techniques that you can play around with to improve the quality and range of characters in your performances.
